THE best performing primary schools in Wyre Forest have been revealed after the release of this year's key stage two SATs results.
Figures for schools in the area show that most are performing above the national average of pupils meeting the expected standards of results - which is 61 per cent.
The statistics have been published by the Department for Education (DfE).
SATs tests are taken by year six pupils in their final year of primary school and measure children's reading, writing and maths skills.
This is the second year children aged 10 and 11 have been tested under the new National Curriculum, which is deemed to be more challenging.
The top performing primary in Wyre Forest was Upper Arley CE Primary School, where 91 per cent of students met the expected standard.
A further 18 per cent achieved a higher than expected standard, with writing well above the average.
The next best performing school was Lickhill Primary School, where 85 per cent met the expected standard.
Wolverley Sebright Primary School came third with 83 per cent hitting the target.
Comberton Primary School and St Wulstan's Catholic Primary School both saw 76 per cent hitting the expected standard.
A number of schools in Wyre Forest also fell below the expected standard, including Birchen Coppice Primary (19 per cent), St Mary's CE Primary School (37 per cent), St John's CE Primary School (37 per cent) and St Oswald's CE Primary School (38 per cent).
Across the country, 61 per cent of children taking their SATs met the expected standard, while nine per cent performed at a higher than expected standard.
The figures also show only 57 per cent of the Worcestershire’s ten and 11 year olds reached expected levels in reading, writing and mathematics.
However, Worcestershire’s results have improved by 10 per cent on last year’s, when results were lower at most schools following the introduction of new tougher SATs exams.
Councillor Marcus Hart, Worcestershire County Council cabinet member for education, said: “We are delighted with the latest set of SAT results that show pupils in Worcestershire to be improving and performing well in all areas, including reading, writing and maths.
"SAT's provide an opportunity to assess children's progress at the end of Key Stage 2 and allow us to ensure that children reach their maximum potential within education.
“We will continue to work closely with schools in the county to ensure that all our schools attain the best possible outcomes for all involved.”
