A PRIMARY school in Stourport has been given a welcome cash boost to develop its outdoor community project.

St Bartholomew’s Church of England Primary and Nursery has been awarded £2,000 from the Greggs Foundation to go towards the outdoor learning the school provides.

The money will be used to enhance the school’s ‘Thrive’ programme, which is designed the help develop pupils’ scientific knowledge as well as confidence, self-esteem and responsibility while being part of a team.

They are also looking to set up a shop later this year to provide fresh fruit and vegetables to the school and its community.

St Bartholomew’s has been developing its outdoor learning environment with a recent community event proving a success as pupils, staff, parents and the Severn Academies Educational Trust worked together to improve flower beds and the allotment at the back of the school.

The school were also the national winners of the RHS School Gardening Award in 2014 while it also continues to work with The Woodland Trust to plant trees and inspire students to learn more about nature.

Head teacher Sue Helps said: “We pride ourselves on providing a safe, happy and flourishing learning environment for all of our students and maintain the highest expectations and aspirations for all our pupils.

“We believe in and deliver a creative curriculum which builds children’s social and emotional resilience and the Greggs Foundation Environment Grant will enable us to carry out to our vision.”
