A 29-YEAR-OLD man from Kidderminster has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for two counts of attempted rape of a girl under 13 years old.

Henry Loveridge, age 29, formerly of the Hoobrook area of Kidderminster, appeared at Worcester Crown Court today (Friday, March 23) for sentencing.

On September 29, 2017, Loveridge attempted to rape a female child in a wooded area in Kidderminster.

He was caught by a member of the public who called the police, and was then arrested and later charged the following day.

On March 1 this year, he pleaded guilty to the offence and also to an additional count of attempted rape of a female under 13, in relation to an offence which took place within a house in Kidderminster in 2016.

This offence was reported to officers while they were investigating the later incident.

Detective Inspector Edward Slough, from West Mercia Police, said: "This result reflects the serious nature of the offences committed by Loveridge, and he is now behind bars where he can cause no further harm.

”I hope it will provide some closure for the victim, who has shown incredible courage in coming forward to report these offences and giving evidence against him.

"I'm aware there was understandable community concern at the time of the offence, and I hope today's sentencing provides some reassurance to the public about how seriously we have investigated this offence.

”Due to the diligence and determination of officers and staff involved with the case, we have been able to secure a prompt conviction and ensure that Loveridge has been brought to justice for his abhorrent actions."
