AN AWARD winning Kidderminster choir is set to be presented with another prestigious honour at a forthcoming concert.

The inaugural Kidderminster Mayoral Certificate for Outstanding Achievement is to be handed to Kidderminster Male Choir (KMC) by the town’s civic leader Councillor Nicky Gale.

It will be presented at the Kidderminster Mayor’s Royal Air Force Commemorative Concert, which will be held on Saturday, April 14 at St Mary’s Church, starting at 7.30pm.

The concert commemorating 100 years since the inauguration of the Royal Air Force on April 1 1918 will be spectacle of song to celebrate the special anniversary.

The new award instituted by Councillor Gale will be in the gift of successive Kidderminster Mayor’s and will be awarded annually.

Steve Conway, KMC Concert Secretary, said: “This is a massive honour for KMC and we are absolutely delighted to be the very first recipients.

‘The choir, which is in its 114 year, has been an integral part of the history of Kidderminster and all of the choir are justly proud that the Mayor has chosen KMC to be the first recipient of the very special award.

“KMC has grown, over the years, to be a tour de force in the world of male choirs and has been instrumental in moving forward the popularity of choir singing in the area’.

‘This was never more so than the setting up of the brilliant Kidderminster Valentines Ladies Choir who this year celebrate their 30 years anniversary with a joint concert with KMC at the Town Hall on Saturday April 28.”

Next month is a particularly busy one for KMC as they will also be performing at the Chateau Impney, Droitwich the choir is to host a concert in support of the Military Battle Back Organisation – which supports injured and ill military personnel - on April 20.

KMC will be supported at the concert by the Band of the West Midlands Fire Service and members of the Band of the Royal Air Force (Cosford).
