HEARTBROKEN family and friends of a Kidderminster man who died after battling cancer are to host a charity football tournament in his memory.

Marcus Davis was just 24 when he died on January 25 almost a year after he was diagnosed with stage four testicular cancer.

His friend Mark Donaldson wanted to do something in Marcus’ memory and, due to his love of football, has organised a tournament and fun day at Gilt Edge club and grounds in Kidderminster on Sunday, July 1.

Proceeds raised from the event will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust and Clic Sargent charity, which supported Marcus’ family.

As well as the football, there will be live music from Kidderminster band Murmur, local DJ Chris Foxall, children’s entertainment and food stalls.

They are now appealing for prizes for a raffle, bouncy castle providers and anyone who wants to run a stall at the event to get in touch.

Marcus’ uncle Ashley Grasham said: “Marcus was diagnosed with testicular cancer and fought all the way through as they told us he would be ok.

“He had three courses of chemotherapy and went on to have stem cell transplants but unfortunately none of these worked.

“On January 6, they gave him about six months to live but then that came down to six to eight weeks due to it spreading to his brain. He was admitted to hospital in pain on January 23 and sadly passed away in the early hours of January 25.

“Mark wanted to do something in memory of Marcus and for the family and due to his love of football, a tournament seemed the best idea.

“He is the main organiser and is getting help from Marcus’ best friend Shane Trossel, mum Trudie, dad Colin, sister Rebecca, myself, my brother David and other uncles, aunties and cousins.

“All monies from the day will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust and Clic Sargent charities who helped my family out massively as we were going through the worse time ever. We want the day to be a massive success for these great causes.”

Anyone who can donate raffle prizes or wants a stall can contact Ashley via email at ashgrash1977@gmail.com or by calling 07931 314160.”
