COMMUNITY-spirited Wolverley school children have joined a campaign to help keep Kidderminster and surrounding areas tidy.

Wolverley Sebright Primary is the first school to become ‘Junior Pick Up Artists’ and will see youngsters giving up their own time to make their area litter-free.

Pupil Lauren Parkinson is the ‘environmental minister’ for the school and she recruited her classmates to join in the scheme.

Earlier this year, resident Michelle Medler created The Pick-Up Artists’ “Keeping Kidderminster and Surrounding Places Clean” Facebook group and she is now urging other schools to follow Wolverley’s example.

Lauren said: “We all need to work together in our community to keep our beautiful environment safe and clean. Over £900,000,000 was spent across the country cleaning up the mess that if left by others. If we all did just a little then a big impact would be made”.

Head teacher Shelley Reeves-Walters added: “Our pupils are passionate and proud of their school and the community they live in.

“By raising the profile and supporting the great work of Michelle Medler, our pupils and families will lead the way.”

To help schools, Foley Fish Bar has offered to sponsor equipment required for children to pick litter safely.

Michelle said: “I cannot believe how supportive the local businesses are being and thank Foley Fish Bar for all their donations of vouchers, t-shirts and equipment.

“With more sponsorship like this we can encourage more groups to join us and educate children from a young age the damage litter does to our environment."
