A BEWDLEY councillor will follow in the footsteps of his wife as he becomes the new Mayor.

Cllr Roger Coleman was elected Mayor of Bewdley at an annual town meeting last Friday (May 11), succeeding his wife Anna Coleman who gained the title a year ago.

The newly appointed Mayor said the role "feels very different" and that he's looking forward to the year ahead.

The town meeting saw many people from the Bewdley community come together to support the new mayor.

During his Mayoral year, Roger will support charities involved in the prevention of prostate cancer, including the Worcestershire Prostate awareness trust who raise the profile of the disease and fund research.

He will also be supporting the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust’s Rory the Robot Appeal which funds robotic assisted surgery for prostate cancer using the state-of-the-art Da Vinci surgical system for patients.

Also elected at the meeting was Philip Edmondson as Deputy Mayor, Star Powel as Junior Mayor and Erin Boddice as her Deputy.

Outgoing Mayor Anna Coleman presented thank you awards to Sue Edwards, Tracy Grosvenor, Ian Williams, and a civic award to Carol Allen.
