WYRE Forest Citizens Advice Bureau is bidding a fond farewell to two committed volunteers who clocked up 50 years’ service between them.

Janet Murrey and Daphne Nealon have been giving up their own time to help and provide advice others since 1993 when they joined the CAB service.

But after a quarter of a century of dedicated service, including overcoming illness and even broken limbs to make it to the office, Janet and Daphne will no longer be on the end of the phone to the public.

A spokesman for Wyre Forest CAB said: “Back in 1993, two very special ladies Janet Murrey and Daphne Nealon decided to become volunteers at Wyre Forest Citizens Advice Bureau.

“Back then everything was done manually on old manual typewriters from their office in Worcester Street.

“The rooms were separated by a curtain and on busy days even the kitchen had to be used as an interview room.

“All the information and advice was in book form with every wall adorned with shelves groaning with reference books.

“Janet and Daphne have moved not only physically but also the huge change into the technological world we all now operate in.

“The spirit of goodness and willingness to help others doesn’t stop there, they both still continue to help in other charitable organisations including the Stroke Club and the Trinity Methodist Church.

“They will be sorely missed.”
