A FORMER Kidderminster special school earmarked for a potential housing development has gone on the market.

Property consultancy Harris Lamb said the old Stourminster School, on Comberton Road, could accommodate a scheme for 56 homes on the 5.36 acre-site.

It has been allocated in Wyre Forest District Council’s Preferred Options Draft of the Local Plan, which the authority is looking to adopt by the delayed date of spring 2020.

Stourminster, along with the old Blakebrook Special School, closed in 2011 with the two merging to become Wyre Forest School based on the Habberley Campus next to Baxter College and St John’s CE Primary.

Harris Lamb are acting on behalf of Worcestershire County Council and represented by Place Partnership on the sale. No guide price has been set but bids are being invited.

James Willcock, of Harris Lamb’s Residential Land team, said: “This is a very exciting time for Worcestershire.

“There has been a huge amount of concern about the lack of new housing emerging to meet the demand from buyers looking to settle in the region, and recent months have seen some prominent parcels of land released for developers to meet that demand.”

He added they expected the site to be of great interest to housebuilders, given its location.

He said: “The site is located adjacent to King Charles I School and Comberton Primary School giving excellent educational facilities to the children of local residents.

“In addition, the site is situated next to a well-established and popular residential area with local shops and services. The site is located only a short distance from the Worcestershire countryside and picturesque villages of Stone and Harvington.

“The countryside setting of the site is enhanced by the presence of woodland on the site boundary together with the Spennells Brook, placing it in an attractive rural environment.”
