FINAL preparations are being made for a charity football match in memory of a Kidderminster man who lost his battle with cancer.

Family and friends of Marcus Davis have organised the ‘veterans v wannabes’ match and event, which will also feature live bands and a raffle, at Gilt Edge club and grounds in Kidderminster on Sunday, July 1 from 12pm.

Mr Davis was just 24 when he died on January 25 almost a year after he was diagnosed with stage four testicular cancer.

Proceeds raised from the event will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust and Clic Sargent charity, which supported Marcus’ family.

The match kicks off at 2pm with Ex-Wolves captain Jody Craddock will lead the veterans’ team which will also feature a host of ex-Kidderminster Harriers, Stourport Swifts and Alvechurch players.

Marcus’ best friend Shane Trossel will skipper the wannabes side who will be managed by his cousin Jordan Grasham and feature his old football pals and family.

Before the game, live music will be performed from 12.30pm featuring acts Secret Garden, The Murmur, Social Hysteria, Bad Medicine as well as displays by dance groups.

A charity auction and raffle will get underway between 4.30pm and 5pm with treasures on offer including signed Manchester United, Aston Villa and Harriers’ shirts, weekend breaks in the Isle of Man, £250 cash and a family ticket to West Midland Safari Park.
