A MOTORCYCLE rider was airlifted to hospital after being seriously injured when his bike crashed into a lamppost in Hartlebury.

The incident happened this morning (July 17) around 7.40am on Worcester Road by the Hartlebury Trading Estate.

An ambulance as well as an air ambulance from Cosford were brought to the scene, after passers-by, off-duty nurses, and a firefighter, initially came to the man’s aid.

He suffered serious leg and arm injuries, but paramedics added that he could have sustained greater injury had he not have been wearing safety clothing.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The rider, a man in his 30s, had suffered some nasty injuries.

"Working together, the crew and air ambulance staff provided pain relief before applying splints after manipulating the injuries.

“The air ambulance, which had landed in the road nearby, then flew the man to the major trauma centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

“Whilst the man suffered serious injuries, the crews remarked that the fact he was wearing full biker leathers and a helmet reduced the level of injuries.”
