SCOUTING chiefs are throwing open the Rhydd Covert camp site to celebrate and showcase the movement on Saturday.

Scouts, Cubs, Beavers and Explorers, leaders, helpers and friends are invited to join in an afternoon of fun and activities at the site, next to the West Midland Safari Park.

The open day starts at 2pm and organisers from the Kidderminster and District Scout Council would also like to welcome past Scouters and potential leaders and volunteers as well as any youngsters interested in joining.

The afternoon will feature tours of Rhydd Covert, set in acres of woodland and there will be the chance to have a go at abseiling, archery, the climbing wall and shooting. There will also be skills bases, demonstrations by the Activate Team, a bouncy castle and giant games.

Teas will be provided courtesy of the Scout Fellowship and a campfire will be followed by a barbecue, disco and karaoke night. At 3pm there will be a brief annual meeting and presentations, to which all are welcome.

The new £140,000 scout centre at Rhydd was opened in July 2006 following an £80,000 appeal through the Shuttle/Times & News to build a replacement after the original one was destroyed in an arson attack.
