SEEMS rather strange to be talking of golf on what is a football-themed site. I once tried to play golf but I wasn’t very good. I was told my problem was that I was standing too close to the ball after I’d hit it.
I was looking through the ‘Auction of Promises’ list that is to take place on Friday 2 March simply to raise money for KHFC.

Amongst golf-related items is a mounted photograph signed by all the players of the 2006 winning Ryder Cup team; the actual flag from the 18th hole signed by Faldo himself after winning the open at Muirfield, plus his autobiography duly signed; a round of golf for two at Kidderminster (on a weekday); and a round for two at the ever-welcoming Sapey.

On the football front is yet another mind-boggling choice. There’s a football signed by the great man himself, Sir Bobby Charlton; an autographed Michael Owen shirt; a ticket to see Manchester United v Lille on 7 March with transport provided; and a Liverpool shirt signed by their whole squad. There are quite a few more signed items, but one that caught my eye was a drum, signed by the likes of Broughton, Henrikksen, Adie Smith, etc. I almost said, “That’ll take some beating”, but I won’t.

If you have an equine bent, there’s something for you: a day down at Minehead visiting the yard of Trainer Philip Hobbs; being personally chauffeured by our very own VC Neal Savery; a ticket for two at the Cheltenham Festival; and a day at the races with trainer Alan Jukes.

If food is your forte, look no further. Up for auction are four Sunday lunches at The Mug House in Bewdley; fish ‘n’ chips for six at Captain Cod’s; and a meal for two at Brockencote Hall. Also on offer is the opportunity of a supper party for four at the home of Mark and Nicky Yates. Even more unique is the chance to tour the House of Commons and have lunch with our own MP Richard Taylor. Or maybe you’d be interested in bidding for a season’s supply of the fabled Aggborough soup. The 12-bottle case of wine must be worth a nod. (I’ll drink to that.)

Maybe you feel the need to get out and about. How does a Whittles trip to see Evita at the Adelphi sound, with time to spare in London? Some of the many other experiences to bid on include a hot air balloon trip, a trip to the Safari Park, a visit to the Air Ambulance Centre, a flying lesson; and the ultimate, you may say, being the availability of a large house for two weeks in the Grand Bahama.

There are also behind-the-scenes packages, one of which includes a day with the venerable Mat Kendrick on a match day.

There is a risk of making this read like some long wishing list. The truth of the matter is that there is something available to suit most tastes or needs.

Copies of the full list of promises are available at the club’s ticket office, where they will also endeavour to answer any questions. Before Saturday’s game would be an ideal time, even more so if you stayed to watch the game.

Tickets for the night, which begins at 7.00pm in the Aggborough Suite, are £10 each, which includes a pig roast. If you can’t make it in person, you can proffer a sealed bid, marking the envelope “Auction of Promises”. If you have any other questions, you can contact Mrs Jean Savery on 01584 881267.

Saturday’s match against Halifax has to be one of our most important for a few years. Get past this one and we’re only a step away from a magical trip to the hallowed Wembley.

Thanks for your time.
