WITNESSES are being sought after a fire at a Stourport restaurant.

Police and firefighters were called to the Golden Country Chinese restaurant, High Street, at about 3.20am yesterday.

No-one was injured but fire damage was caused to the rear of the restaurant and smoke damage was caused to six flats above.

Seven people had to be evacuated from the flats overnight for safety reasons.

One of those evacuated, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital as a precaution after complaining of chest pain but was released after treatment.

DS Duncan Lloyd of Kidderminster CID said: “Police are keeping an open mind as to the cause of the fire and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen anyone in the area of the restaurant at the time. “

Anyone with information is asked to contact DS Lloyd on 08457 444888 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
