FIREFIGHTERS are currently clearing up what is believed to be petrol from a Kidderminster drain.

Sixteen firefighters from Kidderminster, Worcester and Stourport are at the scene, in New Road, helping to clear the substance.

They were called at about 8.45am this morning. Police officers and workers from the Environment Agency are also at the scene.

A spokeswoman from West Mercia Constabulary said: “Someone is believed to have spilled petrol in a drain. We’re there making sure that no-one puts a match down it.”

Alec Mackie a spokesman from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said he did not know whether the substance was spilled deliberately.
