PUPILS at a Kidderminster school joined together in an attempt to break the record for the longest walking bus.

They took on the challenge as part of the national big schools walking bus challenge, organised by road safety charity, Break.

At Franche Community Primary School, 76 pupils from year two got involved, picking up their classmates along the way.

Labour Worcestershire county councillor, Nigel Knowles, the school’s chairman of governors, said: “The walking bus challenge has been a great success. It has been a lot of fun for the children and also an excellent way to promote walking to school.”

Val Weddell-Hall, school headteacher, said: “As part of our school travel plan we encourage the children to walk to school where possible, not only to reduce car congestion in the area but also to benefit the children’s health from the additional exercise.”
