CITROEN in Kidderminster closed its doors yesterday, with the loss of six jobs, due to poor sales performance.

The Worcester Road dealership, which also provided vehicle servicing, had been in business for more than 20 years and staff were made redundant last night.

Richard Hill, group director, said the Citroen dealership in Redditch would continue to trade and customers could go there to buy and service their vehicles.

It will also be business as usual for Brooklyn Mazda, which is also on the Worcester Road site.

Mr Hill said: “We’re reviewing the business performance, overheads and costs and as a result of that we have had to make a difficult decision to close, which we did last night.

“We’re still trading with Mazda and we will continue to do so.

“We tried to transfer as many staff as we could to other positions. However, there were a small number that we had to make redundant. It was a decision that has not been made easily.

“We had to close because of the viability of the Citroen franchise and the poor return from that franchise. It is something we have considered over a number of months due to performance.

“The staff took it very well. It was not very easy. Our personnel department is working with them to secure alternative employment.”
