STAFF at Sainsbury’s in Kidderminster braved thunderstorms and lightning to raise £1,000 for Acorns Childrens Hospice by putting on a special fun day.
The event, at Wilden Top Cricket Club, featured an adults five-a-side football tournament, won by Kidderminster’s Warehouse Cinema team.
The other 11 teams that competed were from companies based in the town, including the Harriers Ladies team.
Sainsbury’s staff also organised stalls for the day, including a barbecue, tombola, coconut shy, cake stall and many others.
Juliet Fox, Sainsbury's PR ambassador and fund-raiser, said: "Despite the rain, thunderstorms and lightning, the sun eventually came out and by late afternoon there was some glorious sunshine.
“We raised over £1,000 for Acorns, which was amazing.”
Acorns Childrens Hospice offers care for life-limited children across Worcestershire. Acorns is a registered charity which relies almost entirely on voluntary donations and outside support.
