TWELVE Wyre Forest primary schools are being considered for 20mph speed limits as part of a review of limits on A and B roads throughout Worcestershire.

The Department for Transport (DfT) has called for all local highway authorities to undertake a review and make any changes by 2011.

The strategy aims to reduce collisions and casualties and create a safer and calmer traffic environment.

The schools in Kidderminster are Birchen Coppice Community Primary, Foley Park Community Primary, Offmore Primary, Franche Primary, St Ambrose Catholic Primary, St George’s CE Primary and Nursery, St Oswald’s CE Primary, St Mary’s CE Primary and Sutton Park Community Primary.

The other schools included are Bewdley Primary and St Anne’s CE Primary in Bewdley and St Bartholomew’s CE Primary in Stourport.

Astley CE and Bayton CE Primary schools are already within a 20 mph limit.

Labour county councillor, Nigel Knowles, has been campaigning for the introduction of 20mph zones for all schools in the county.

Other strategies include vehicle activated signs (VAS), infrastructure and engineering remedial works and road safety education, training and publicity.

Worcestershire County Council cabinet members approved the draft speed management strategy for consultation in September and October.

Members were told to contact the director of environmental services if they felt a specific school had been omitted from the list.
