THE assault of a woman in Kidderminster town centre was believed to be sexually motivated, police have said.

A 23-year-old woman was the victim of an attack in the Morrisons supermarket car park, in Oxford Street, just after 3am on Monday morning.

The victim was walking alone when she was grabbed from behind by a white man.

She is believed to have passed out and was found a short time later by a member of the public, who called the emergency services.

She had bruising and grazing to her face and body and articles of her clothing had been torn and removed.

Detective Superintendent Steve Pepper of West Mercia Constabulary said: “The victim is understandably extremely shocked and distressed.

“A large number of officers are working on this inquiry and, as part of the investigation, the car park was sealed off until about lunchtime yesterday and CCTV is being examined.

“Prior to the assault, the victim had walked down Comberton Hill towards the town centre and through the underpass. She was cutting through Morrisons car park when she was attacked.

“Police are still trying to ascertain exactly what happened and are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Morrisons supermarket or the Comberton Hill roundabout between 3am and 4am to contact Kidderminster CID on 08457 444 888 or ring Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
