STUDENTS at a Kidderminster private school were mistakenly given higher exam results than they had actually achieved.
Years nine and 10 pupils at Holy Trinity School received the wrong sets of grades for exams that form part of their GCSE studies. They were then sent letters by the school, days later, informing them of the error and providing the correct results.
One parent, who did not wish to be named, said her daughter was in year 10 at the school and took exams at the end of her first year of GCSE studies.
She explained her daughter had been told her one A* grade, two As and one B had been changed to three Ds and an N grade.
The parent said: “The letter just calmly informed us that the results she was originally given were wrong and that these were the results she actually got.
“I know the grades seemed a bit high originally but you wouldn’t presume they were wrong, would you? My daughter said: ‘These results can’t be right’ but I told her not to do herself down.
“As a parent, you just feel proud of your kid for doing so well. I’m very angry that the results have turned out to be wrong, as it has messed us all around.
“I know the same has happened to some other families and they are all as angry as me.
“It’s embarrassing for someone to be made to believe they have done really well in their results and then find the results aren’t true.”
Holy Trinity School headteacher, Yvonne Wilkinson, said: “The results of some year nine and 10 students in one subject that have been brought to the attention of the Shuttle/Times & News are module results, therefore they are only part of the GCSE mark and are not a full GCSE grade.
“These module results do not indicate a final GCSE grade at the end of year 11.”
