THE family of a Kidderminster man who died in a road accident are taking part in a sponsored run to raise funds for the charity that supported them.
Alison Kane, 36, of Barnetts Close, and her two children Olivia, 7 and Anton, 5, will be running in the Run to Remember event on Sunday, September 21 to raise more funds for Noah’s Ark Trust.
Mrs Kane explained that the charity had supported her children after the death of their father, Tim, in April last year.
They aim to raise £200 to add to the £1,850 Mrs Kane has already raised by putting on a dinner party in her home for 40 of her late husband’s friends.
Noah’s Ark Trust provides support to children, young people and their families who have experienced a bereavement in Worcestershire and Herefordshire.
Mrs Kane said: “Taking part is something to remember him by and also a way to repay the charity and help other families who need them in the future.
“We are all really looking forward to it. The children are excited, particularly as there is the opportunity to dress up in animal costumes.”
She added: “It will definitely bring back memories. We will be there as a family, alongside other families who have been through something similar.”
Counsellors from Noah’s Ark Trust have provided one-to-one support for her children and also put on a residential weekend full of activities to help them work through their emotions.
Mrs Kane said: “They have been very successful. It has given the children the opportunity to talk about their feelings.
“It makes them open up about what has happened and remember all the happy times with their father.”
A statement by Mrs Kane after her husband’s death is also being used by police to bring home to young people the effect it has on families when a loved one dies in a road collision.
The Run to Remember event offers the choice of a 1km family run or longer 5km and 10km courses and takes place at the Worcester Countryside Centre, Wildwood Drive, Worcester from 10.15am.
