PEOPLE can take a trip on the canal or explore Stourport’s heritage next weekend as part of a national heritage celebration.

Canal boat trips will operate in and between Stourport and Kidderminster and there will also be the chance to see a heritage working canal boat and to take part in costume guided walks around the town and basins.

Other venues to open as part of the Heritage Open Days Event 2008 will include St Bartholomew's Church where Areley Kings Bell Ringers will attempt to ring a “quarter peel” to welcome the start of the weekend and Church House which will host an exhibition of local artists work.

St Michael's Church and graveyard, Stourport Methodist Church and The Masonic Hall in Severn Road will also be open.

In addition, Pauline Annis, of Stourport Civic Society, will give a talk on Stourport - The Canal Town at the Masonic Hall on Sunday, September 14, at 2.30pm.

Stourport Forward has been working in partnership with Wyre Forest District Council, Heritage Opportunities Group and other partners to extend Stourport’s offer as part of the Heritage Open Days Weekend.

Liz Durnell, of Stourport Forward, said: “This weekend will help to showcase some of Stourport’s fascinating heritage, while providing a fantastic and unique opportunity to explore parts of Stourport and Kidderminster by canal boat.”

To book your canal boat trip or costumed guided walk, check prices or to learn more about the activities and opening times for each venue contact Liz Durnell on 01827 252233 or visit www.stourporttown.co.uk.
