11:22am Thursday 4th September 2008

A KIDDERMINSTER man charged with driving nearly three times over the alcohol limit and causing the death of a 23-year-old Cookley father by dangerous driving has appeared before Kidderminster magistrates today.

Lee Philip Whettall, 24, of Aldermere Road, was told both charges would be committed to Worcester Crown Court and heard on January 8 next year.

He is charged with having 90 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - 35 microgrammes being the legal limit.

Mr Whettall was driving a white Ford Transit Van when the road crash happened on March 31 this year.

Scott Irwin, of Staite Drive, was killed in the crash at the junction of the A451 Minster Road and Oldington Lane, Kidderminster.

Mr Whettall was released on unconditional bail and told to keep in touch with his solicitors.

No plea was entered.
