THE number of proposed post office closures in Wyre Forest should be reduced from four to two, according to the Conservative parliamentary spokesman for the area.

The branches in Wolverley, The Walshes in Stourport, Park Lane in Harvington and Comberton Hill in Kidderminster are on a list of 56 premises across Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands that are earmarked for closure.

A six-week public consultation will run until October 7, during which residents are encouraged to air their views on the proposals before a final decision is made on which post offices will be closed.

Mark Garnier said: “Comberton Hill is a viable, profitable post office, that serves its community well, as does Queen’s Road, in the Walshes.”

He explained he “welcomed” local campaigns to save the post offices under threat but felt if one was saved as a result of local campaigning, another would close elsewhere.

He went on: “Across the country, 2,500 post offices will be cut. Wyre Forest’s share is four and they will close under these proposals.

“If one is saved, another will close elsewhere in the district. That is why I am campaigning to reduce the number to be closed from four to two.”
