A PHOTOGRAPHY fanatic has been named the West Midlands runner-up in a national competition for his shot of a Kidderminster park.

Shaun Parrin, 48, a member of Kidderminster Camera Club, took a photograph of Sutton Park on a misty morning earlier this year. Weeks later, he decided to enter it in the national “postcards from the park” photo competition, set up by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Mr Parrin, who lives round the corner from the park, explained: “I had taken some photographs for the camera club on a very misty morning, which we rarely get in Kidderminster.

“I knew I had taken a good photo but didn’t think any more about it until somebody at the club told me about the competition.”

As a runner-up, Mr Parrin will get his photographs curated at an exhibition at a national museum.

He said: “When I entered, I didn’t know what the prizes were. It’s just good exposure for my work and nice that it is appreciated. A lot of people don’t realise that Kidderminster has a good arts scene.

“I also think it’s good to promote Kidderminster and its local parks. It’s important to keep green spaces in the area.”
