HEAVY RAIN has forced organisers of this weekend’s Stourport Carnival to change arrangements for the event - but they have insisted it will go ahead.

The carnival field will now only be used for the stage and bandstand entertainments and possibly a couple of large inflatable rides.

The main funfair will be situated in the second car park, with all traders and exhibitors in the first car park.

The land parade will go ahead as normal but instead of ending up in the overflow car park - which is now closed - it will finish in the car park behind the Civic Centre.

Pete Roberts, a member of the carnival committee, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the changes but it is really out of our control.

“We aim to make the most of the weekend and still have a really good time and make it a party atmosphere for all visitors, whatever the weather.

“Please come down and show your support despite the changes. These changes and the weather will affect the money we collect for charity so we need all the support we can get.”

We done to everyone who participated in the carnival despite the weather the bands & floats were brilliant! Unfortunately I shall not be watching next year with my two young children due to amount of groups of teenages/adults who stand blatantly drinking beer! Despite the presents of police & community support officers I felt very uncomfortable. I thought Stourport town centre was a alcohol free zone?

salesmanswidow, whats your real problem? Was there a problem with drunken behaviour? Did the police not do their job? You say "Well done to everyone who participated in the carnival despite the weather the bands & floats were brilliant!" Yet you are going to deny your two young children from experiencing the event next year. Your excuse is very weak and bordering on being silly just as silly as me saying... Unfortunately I shall not be watching next year due to the amount of single and groups of teenagers/adults male and female who stand around blatantly with children who run around and laugh and scream! Despite the presence of police & community support officers I felt very uncomfortable. I think Stourport town centre should be a fun free zone. Lighten up! It is a carnival. People enjoy themselves at carnivals, the police were there to keep everyone safe if any trouble arose. Support the carnival next year and take your children along. There are many, many things in this world much worse than a few people drinking beer in public at a carnival. Crikey! the weather was enough to make anyone turn to drink.
