WORK is set to begin on replacing a Kidderminster school with a new £4 million purpose-built building.
Worcestershire County Council’s plans to create a replacement school for Sutton Park Community Primary School as part of the Wyre Forest Review are set to get underway on October 1 and finish in June 2010.
The new school will be a single form entry primary, with a nursery and specialist unit for pupils with language communication difficulties.
It will also feature a number of environmental features that will reduce carbon dioxide emissions, create a sustainable urban drainage system for stormwater, enhance biodiversity and increase pupil awareness.
Conservative councillor Stephen Clee, cabinet member for corporate services, said: “We are delighted work on creating the new school, designed by our in-house design team, is getting underway.
“A great deal of time and effort has gone into making sure the new venue will meet the needs of pupils, staff, parents and the wider community. We are looking forward to seeing these plans turn into reality.”
Pupils were involved several times during the design stage, and one of their inputs was the final brick selection via a Brick Idol vote on sample panels that will be built in the courtyard.
The project is being funded by Worcestershire County Council.
