Six-ban driver's sentencing adjourned

3:10pm Friday 5th September 2008

THE sentencing of a motorist caught driving banned for the sixth time has been adjourned for a probation officer to give evidence to a judge.

Job Clarke, 39, of Lorne Street, Kidderminster, had claimed he had a sick note to cover breaching a community order which could trigger a suspended jail term.

But the note covered earlier dates this year, which excused his attendance, admitted his barrister Michael Aspinall at Worcester Crown Court.

He claimed Clarke could not attend a probation appointment on July 27 because he was being evicted from his home.

Judge Andrew Geddes adjourned the case until September 12 and granted Clarke bail.

Clarke has pleaded guilty to driving while banned and having no insurance. He denies the breach, insisting the probation office knew of his eviction problems.

The judge has already warned Clarke that he faces a substantial prison sentence for persistently driving while disqualified.
