A KIDDERMINSTER mother-of two has described the “horrendous” stress of having a major building site right outside her front door.

Natasha Williams, 31, of Longfellow Green, Offmore Farm, said the development, by the Community Housing Group to build 27 houses and bungalows, was having a devastating affect on her family.

She said: “It is an absolute bomb site. It’s horrendous. It’s very stressful seeing it go on every day of the week.”

Mrs Williams, mother of Aaron, nine, and Kieron, four, added: “We are very upset. It is causing us great distress.

“I am currently recovering from major abdominal surgery and I am having to live in these conditions.”

The pharmacy assistant added: “We hear loud noise every day from 7.30am to 4.30pm, with all the digging, the excavation work and the builders bashing about.”

Mrs Williams said many residents feared the area was unsafe and claimed there were “obstructions” and safety hazards everywhere.

She added that the perimeter fencing needed lighting, particularly as the feet of the fencing stuck out.

She said: “It would be dangerous for my children to go out, so we have to keep them indoors. They are boys and they just want to go out and play.”

Mrs Williams added she did not think there was enough room for a fire engine to reach her property in the event of an emergency.

Mike Parker, Wyre Forest District Council’s head of planning, health and environment, said: "The planning application for this development was dealt with in the normal way, which included extensive consultation within the vicinity of the site and consideration by members of the planning committee.

“In granting planning permission the council has carried out its statutory duty to determine the application.

“The council supports the provision of new affordable housing and The Community Housing Group are one of its key partners in the delivery of affordable housing in the district.”

Fiona Law, marketing manager for The Community Housing Group, added: “We have visited the development and met with some of the residents who have raised concerns about the safety of the site.

“Although we noticed that some of the fencing had moved slightly, we are pleased to report that this has been repositioned and that the path is sufficient to allow safe access.

“Thomas Vale Construction, the principal contractor on the site, are members of the considerate construction scheme and their sites are regularly inspected to ensure that they meet all health and safety regulations and requirements.

“We are pleased to hear that on this development site, the Health and Safety Executive are satisfied with all of the measures in place.

“We are very grateful for the feedback and comments from local residents and are happy to address any future concerns to ensure that the development proceeds smoothly.”
