Post Office 'paid no attention' to residents' views

A WYRE Forest Westminster hopeful has accused the Post Office of paying no attention to residents’ views on closures in the district.

Mark Garnier, Conservative parliamentary spokesman for Wyre Forest, said he felt the Post Office had not listened to residents during the six-week public consultation period, held after four branches were earmarked for closure.

It was announced yesterday that the post offices at Comberton Hill in Kidderminster, The Walshes, Stourport, Park Lane, Harvington and Wolverley were on a list of 54 premises across Worcestershire, Herefordshire and the West Midlands that will close down.

During the consultation period, residents were encouraged to air their views on the proposals before a final decision was made on which post offices would be closed.

Mr Garnier, who had campaigned to reduce the number of closures from four to two, said: “I think the haste in which the submissions have been processed means that the Post Office had no intention of ever paying attention to the views of Wyre Forest residents.

“I am appalled that Gordon Brown considers further service cuts a good idea when people are losing their jobs.

“At a time like this, the Government should be supporting businesses, not closing them.”

He added the petitions containing nearly 3,000 signatures opposing the closures were “a huge coming together of Wyre Forest residents with a single cause”.
