A BUDDING scriptwriter from Kidderminster is pursuing his dream of getting his work on the big screen.
Kris Griffin, 33, has been commissioned by production companies to write two scripts and one of his works has been “optioned” by film makers, meaning they have the rights to it for one year.
Cast Your Eye, a script for a short film about a 16-year-old girl who attends acting auditions to keep her dominant father happy, has been taken on by WAHIE Productions.
“I’m really pleased and things seem to be moving in the right direction,” Kris said. “With short films no money usually changes hands – it’s all about getting yourself noticed. If it gets made hopefully we’ll see it released in festivals in Europe.”
Kris, who was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia last February, has been writing for two- and-a-half years since completing an evening film course at Kidderminster College.
“We did film making, which I hated, but I enjoyed the writing. I thought, if I enjoy it and I’m quite good at it then why not keep on with it?”
Kris has also been commissioned by a production company in Canada to write a military feature and a short super hero film. He has set up a website to showcase his work and hopes other film makers will see potential in his ideas.
He went on: “I love films and watch in excess of 200 a year. I get so disappointed with modern blockbusters but, as they say, ‘if you don’t like it, do something about it’, so I’m trying to write something I like. Whether the studios will think the same, I don’t know.”
