FREE shed alarms and SmartWater kits for marking valuables will be given out to Oldington and Foley Park residents at a crime prevention day on Saturday.

The event is being held at Birchen Coppice Community Primary School between 10am and 2pm, when there will be general crime prevention advice available and an opportunity for people to get their bicycles property marked.

A limited supply of free shed alarms and SmartWater kits will be distributed, along with bicycle lights for children, but will only be available to residents of Oldington and Foley Park.

Proof of residency, such as a utility bill or some other document, will have to be provided.

The Local Policing Team has arranged the day in conjunction with the local Pathfinder, PACT (Partners and Communities Together), Oldington and Foley Park Urban Safety Group and Neighbourhood Watch.

Local policing officer, PC Mandy Baldwin, said: “This is a good opportunity for people to meet us and to learn more about crime prevention and the type of products available that can help to keep their property safe. We have held similar events in the past and they have always proved very popular.”

SmartWater is a colourless, indelible solution used for property marking which shows up under ultra violet light. Each batch has a unique forensic code to trace it back to the owner in the event of it being found or recovered after theft.

Home coding kits are available to Neighbourhood Watch members by contacting the North Worcestershire Division NHW co-ordinator Mel Clarke on 01527 586253 or emailing him at Melvyn.clarke@westmercia.pnn.police.uk
