PRIMARY schools in Bewdley joined forces for an evening of music, dance and drama.

The Showtime Bewdley event was held at Stourport Civic Centre with a theme of musical films.

Children from each school, ranging in age from five to 11, sang, acted and danced through extracts from classics such as The Sound of Music, Mamma Mia, The Wizard of Oz and Oliver.

The evening, staged last Wednesday, was organised and hosted by St Anne’s CE Primary School and Simon Tapp, headteacher, said it was “a resounding success”.

He added: “The quality of all the performances was very high and both the audience and performers thoroughly enjoyed the event.

“The evening was MC’d by Adam Jones and Amberley Curzon from St Anne’s and all the pupils demonstrated how much artistic talent there is in Bewdley.”

More than 100 children took part and about 300 school staff, parents, family and friends watched and joined in. The evening was rounded off with everyone in the hall singing Consider Yourself from Oliver.

“The children were impressed by the quality of singing from the audience,” Mr Tapp said.

In 2008, St Anne’s organised a similar evening called Bewdley in Colour, with presentations based on black, yellow, blue and red.
