KIDDERMINSTER Police Station’s new look front counter is due to open to the public this month.

The reopening, on April 20, follows three months of work, which began in the New Year.

It has involved complete refurbishment of the existing front counter area, disabled access ramp and front doorway, to comply with current Disability Discrimination Act legislation.

Improvements include electronic push button doors to provide easier wheelchair access, a disabled toilet, and high level and low level desking.

While the work has been taking place, a temporary front counter has been used.

Graham May, facilities manager for North Worcestershire division, said: “The aim of the work was to upgrade and update the front counter facilities to provide an easily accessible and more pleasant environment for all members of the public when they come to report crimes or speak to officers.

“While the entrance and front counter has been modernised, we have been able to retain the historic look of the station.

“We hope members of the public will like the improvements, and thank them for bearing with us during the disruption.”

The total cost of the work at Kidderminster police station was in the region of £240,000.

Similar refurbishments have already been completed at Stourport, Hagley and Rubery police stations.
