YOUNGSTERS in Cookley have been using their imaginations at a series of workshops.

Puppets, costumes, masks and lanterns were made by children at Cookley Sebright Primary School in preparation for an event celebrating the village’s history on June 6.

Celebrating Cookley will include a parade of flags, banners, masks and mythical figures weaving through the village in the early evening.

A night-time outdoor performance will also be held on the canalside terrace on Cookley Playing Fields, where the “spirit of the River Severn” will exchange stories with a young girl, combining myths and legends with tales of Cookley and its people.

The workshops were led by Bohemian Events, a company specialising in creative outdoor performance, festival and street theatre.

Elizabeth McDonnell, co-ordinator of the Cookley Local Agenda, said: “Before the June event, a great deal of work is going into planning and preparation, including creating a storyline and characters, making costumes, designing and making props and creatures of unknown origins.

“The underlying ethos of the process is that the people of Cookley and the locality will be involved at all stages, telling their stories, making, designing and performing.”
