ORGANISERS estimate that about 2,000 people marched in the annual St George’s Day parades in Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley.

Joan Nutland, member of the Kidderminster Scout Fellowship, said more than 1,500 participants marched to and from New Road in the town’s parade.

The Guides, Brownies and Rainbows attended a special service at Baxter Church, Cubs and Beavers at St George's Church and the Scouts and Explorers at St Mary’s Church.

Mrs Nutland said Sunday’s event was a “great success” and added: “The beautiful weather also attracted large groups of spectators along the route.”

Kidderminster Mayor Marcus Hart, Wyre Forest District Council chairman Stephen Williams and Wyre Forest MP, Dr Richard Taylor, were in attendance.

Tom Pearsall, district commissioner for Severn and Teme District, said about 150 youngsters turned out for the Bewdley parade and about 300 for the one in Stourport.

The Bewdley Parade marched across the bridge and up Load Street to a service at St Anne’s Church, accompanied by the Bewdley Scout and Guide band.

In Stourport, the Stourport Scout and Guide Band led the parade as it started and finished at the War Memorial Park with a service at the Civic Centre.

Mr Pearsall said: “It went very well and we had two excellent parades. Everyone had a good time.”

He added: “I was very pleased that so many young people and their parents turned out to support us.”

Dignitaries from Stourport and Bewdley, including the town Mayors’ and local councillors, formed part of the festivities.
