Taxi driver witness plea after Kidderminster assault

POLICE are appealing for help to trace a taxi driver who may have witnessed an assault on a woman in Kidderminster Town Centre early today.

The woman was attacked by two other women as she was making a call from a phone kiosk in Castle Road by the junction with New Road at 1.45am.

During the assault she was knocked to the floor, kicked and punched and her handbag containing a purse and personal effects went missing. Her attackers walked off in the direction of New Road.

The victim suffered swelling and bruising to her face and right arm for which she was treated at Kidderminster Hospital.

PC Derya Mustafa said: “We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen this attack and in particular want to trace a taxi driver who was waiting at traffic lights in a dark coloured vehicle opposite the kiosk and would very likely have noticed what was happening.

“We also want to hear from anyone who may have seen or found a pink, orange and brown River Island handbag in the area where this happened.”

Two women were arrested earlier today on suspicion of assault and later released on police bail until Thursday, July 23, pending further inquiries.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call PC Mustafa on 0300 333 3000 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously and free on 0800 555 111.
