Halloween weekend at Stourport basins

STOURPORT basins will come to life once again this Halloween weekend with festive events and activities including a ghost canal boat trip.

The festivities begin with the canal boat Dreamcatcher operating trips from the basins on Saturday and Sunday at 1pm, 2.30pm and 4pm.

The boat trip will turn around, without stopping, just after The Bird In Hand pub and then return to the basins.

A British Waterways heritage working boat will be available between noon and 4pm on both days and volunteers will be available to talk about what it was like to live and work on a canal boat in the past. In the Old Stable Heritage Room, next to the Windlass Café/Restaurant, costumed volunteers will also be available to talk about the history of Stourport and the canal basins.

On Saturday, the Halloween activities begin at 3pm with a pumpkin competition at the basins for under 12’s.

The Halloween festivities will continue with a ghost canal boat trip, which will leave the basins at 6.30pm and include some recorded ghost stories.

Passengers will arrive back in time for the Monster Bash, a family fancy dress party at The Windlass Café/Restaurant which will start at 7.30pm.

Liz Sheerin, Stourport Forward, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to explore Stourport’s canal by canal boat, including a chance to view the canal side in the dark, during a unique night time Halloween trip.

“There is something for everyone during the weekend, from learning about life on a heritage working canal boat to the Monster Bash fancy dress party.”

The work of Stourport Forward is currently funded by Advantage West Midlands, Wyre Forest District Council and Worcestershire County Council and supported by Stourport Town Council, British Waterways and other groups/organisations.
