A FAR Forest primary school pupil treated her family to a fun night out after winning a poster competition run by the police.

Melissa Lunnon’s winning bonfire night safety poster was among about 150 entries from schools in the Bewdley area who were invited to take part.

Winners and runners-up were chosen from each schools but Melissa’s was selected as the overall winner.

She won a family ticket to attend West Midland Safari and Leisure Park’s Bonfire Bonanza, held on Saturday night.

Melissa, from Year 4, also won another family ticket to visit the Bishops Wood Environmental Education Centre, donated by the Friends of Bishops Wood.

Both prizes were presented to her by Lionel the safety lion from the safari park. Also present were Community Support Officers from Bewdley local policing team and Wyre Forest Community Housing wardens who were also involved in the competition and helped judge it.

Melissa’s poster was on show as part of a crime prevention display in Bewdley town centre on Wednesday, November 4, which focused on the work of the policing team, neighbourhood wardens and Neighbourhood Watch.

It was organised as part of Not In My Neighbourhood Week, a Home Office campaign highlighting police initiatives in the community.

CSO Nicholla Fice said: “There was a serious safety message behind all this and the standard of poster entries from all the schools was very high. We’re very grateful to everyone who took part and helped support the competition.”
