GRANTS of £4,000 are being offered to attract businesses to empty shops in Wyre Forest.
The district council will give out the cash to repair and refurbish units in Stourport, Bewdley and Kidderminster.
The money must be used for permanent improvements to either the shop fronts or the building’s structure and can also go towards the cost of converting the unit.
Worcester Street, Marlborough Street, Coventry Street and Blackwell Street, within the ring road, are the only areas in Kidderminster where a grant can be used.
Funding is also available for temporary works of art or displays to be placed in vacant shops that are likely to be unused for some time.
Stephen Clee, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “The council is keen to help improve the occupancy levels of vacant retail premises in those areas most affected by the recession by offering funding to improve empty premises or by enhancing the environment to increase footfall for existing businesses.”
Earlier this month it was announced that Wyre Forest would benefit from a £52,000 Government grant to get empty shops back into use.
