Chris, 14, releasing single for Haiti quake victims

A TALENTED 14-year-old guitarist is releasing a self-penned song about the Haiti earthquake to raise cash for the disaster appeal.

Chris Jones, of Kidderminster, said he wrote Just Do What You Can to make people realise they can make a difference to relief efforts in the devastated country.

He explained: “I was out and about and I heard a conversation where someone said ‘it’s really terrible what’s happening over there’.

"The other person said ‘yes it is terrible, but it doesn’t affect me and there is nothing I can do to help them’, so I stormed off home and wrote the song.”

It only took him a day to compose as “something just clicked straight away”, he added.

Chris is also taking to the stage at Marr’s Bar in Worcester on Saturday, January 30, with proceeds from the gig going to victims of the disaster.

CDs of the single will be on sale at the gig and there are also plans to make a download available on itunes and Amazon.

A year 10 pupil at King Charles I School, Chris has appeared at festivals in Kidderminster, Droitwich and Worcester - where he played seven gigs in three days.

His debut EP, Belle of the Ball, is also launched at Wolverley’s The Lock Inn tonight and £1 from each sale will go to Kidderminster Hospital’s Millbrook Suite.

Chris first picked up a guitar in February 2008 and only started singing less than a year ago but is now regularly playing alongside rock groups Sons of Beaches and Naked Remedy.

There are plans for next Saturday’s show - which also features The Dandelion Killers, Inca Hoots, Becky Rose and Polar Rays - to tour Malvern, Hereford and Bromsgrove.

Cash from ticket and T shirt sales and a raffle goes to the Disasters Emergency Committee Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

If you cannot make the gig, you can still donate to the cause by visiting the organiser’s fund-raising page, justgiving.com/wizardpromotions For more information on Chris, go to myspace.com/chrisjonesacoustic
