PLANS have been submitted for the multi-million pound rebuilding of a Kidderminster primary school following an increase in pupil numbers.

Under the proposals, pupils at Offmore Primary School will make use of temporary mobile accommodation while their new school is being built.

The scheme is one of several major building projects resulting from a review of education in Wyre Forest.

As a result of this review, Offmore First School became Offmore Primary School in September 2007, adding years 5 and 6 pupils to those already catered for.

A feasibility study carried out in 2006 recommended that because of the size, layout and condition of the existing school, conversion and extension was not practicable.

Instead it was decided that a new school should be provided, able to house all the pupils without the need for mobile units, and built according to better construction standards.

The proposed strategy is to build the new school on the site of the existing building. The main vehicle entrance from Wordsworth Crescent will remain unchanged and the amount of parking will be increased from 24 marked out spaces to 33 for staff and visitors.

The temporary accommodation will be on the school field and will make use of mobile units.

It will accessed by the existing main vehicle entrance and there will only be a reduced number of parking spaces available.

The plans have been submitted by Worcestershire County Council to Wyre Forest District Council planning bosses.

Parents, pupils, staff, governors and local residents were consulted over the development of the design.

If the scheme is approved, the temporary school will be occupied in the summer when demolition of the existing building will also take place.

Construction of the new school would begin in August for it to be available for use by Christmas.
