AN innovative £106,000 play area will be built in Kidderminster next month.

The Community Housing Group, Urban Safety Group and Oldington and Foley Park Pathfinder have been working together for the last two years to raise the necessary funds for the facility in Woodbury Road.

The centre piece of the play area is an innovative and interactive piece of equipment called the i.play, which builds on the popularity of games consoles and issues each player or team with a sequence of tasks to test speed, agility, co-ordination, strength and stamina.

Young people living in Oldington and Foley Park helped design the park and choose the play equipment.

Members of the Oldington and Foley Park Urban Safety Group/PACT have been instrumental in bidding for funds and keeping the community informed about progress on the play area.

Sarah Turner, Pathfinder co-ordinator, said: “It has taken a huge amount of work over several years to get this play area developed and I am grateful to the community, funders, councillors and young people who have worked so hard to create a truly superb play space.”

Conservative, Nathan Desmond, Wyre Forest District councillor for Oldington and Foley Park, secured £11,000 of funding towards the play area.

He said: “Currently, there is no play provision in and around Foley Park and the Rifle Range and for years parents and children have been asking for this.”
