A MOTORBIKE was seized from a 15-year-old after residents complained about anti-social riding in their area.

Police caught the teenage boy on the bike, with no licence, insurance, tax, number plates or lights.

He was found by officers in Woodbury Road in Oldington and Foley Park, Kidderminster, where police had pledged to clamp down on nuisance bike riders.

The issue had emerged as a priority among residents at the last meeting of Oldington and Foley Park PACT (Partners and Communities Together) in April when problems in Avon Road, Woodbury Road, Walter Nash Road and Gould Avenue were highlighted.

The teenager had already been warned by officers prior to the incident on May 21.

Local Policing Officer for Oldington and Foley Park, PC Sally Sliwinska, said: “There seems to be a core of youngsters who think it is cool to ride around on these unregistered machines without insurance, tax or an MOT.

“Quite apart from the fact that they should not be on the road we are also concerned about their use on common land and footpaths which could lead to walkers being seriously hurt.

“Hopefully the fact we have seized one of these bikes will make it clear to those involved that we are not prepared to tolerate this and will reassure residents who have complained that this is an issue affecting their quality of life.”

She added formal Section 39 warnings could also be given to anyone causing trouble on bikes in the future.

The notices are given to owners and drivers of vehicles used “in a manner which causes alarm, distress or annoyance”.

The vehicle can be seized by police if the driver is stopped again by an officer for being involved in similar anti-social behaviour in the following 12 months.

Police action to combat motorbike nuisances will be reported at the next meeting of Oldington and Foley Park PACT tonight (June 10) at Birchen Coppice Primary School, Woodbury Road, at 6.30pm.
