THE family of a Kidderminster 11-year-old are organising a sponsored walk to raise money for the language unit where he goes to school.

Maureen Lawrence, 51, of Spennells, explained that her son, David, was one of 10 pupils attending the language unit for children with speech and language difficulties at Sutton Park Community Primary School in Kidderminster.

She added they were organising the walk to Stourport and back to benefit both the pupils at the language unit and the eight children taught at the autism base - also a part of the school’s communication centre.

She said David was leaving the unit this year to attend the language unit at King Charles I School in Kidderminster and he wanted to pay them back for their help and support.

Mrs Lawrence said: “We want to do the walk as a thank you to the unit for all its help over the years and to benefit the children there.”

She added: “David has had a really excellent education and we have received a lot of help as a family. They are superb.”

Mrs Lawrence explained they aimed to raise about £300 and wanted the money to be used to fund days out for the children.

The walk will leave from the Watermill pub in Park Lane, Kidderminster, on Saturday, at 10am and will follow the canal route.

Permission has been given to use the pub car park. Refreshments will be available in Stourport.

To make a donation, contact the Greatfield Road school on 01562 67742 or email Mrs Lawrence at mlawrence0804@yahoo.co.uk.

Anyone is welcome to join the walkers on the day.
