Kidderminster College students appeal for 'new' old cars

AFTER 32 weeks of studying the technical needs of today's motorsport industry, Kidderminster College students are celebrating completing their level 2 Motorsport qualification.

The end of their studies, at KC motov8, means, however, that the cars are fixed and the workshop in Bromsgrove Street is about to become empty again.

The students might be jubilant but it has left the project leaders with a headache, as they are faced with sourcing some “new” old motor vehicles for the new cohort of learners.

The project was launched last year in Kidderminster and its aim is to work with hard-to-reach young people to decrease vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour.

It offers the opportunity to develop both personal and social development skills, with hands-on learning, to channel students’ interests into effective learning around mechanics and motor sport, by giving them the opportunity to do things with cars.

It is the culmination of several years work between the Wyre Forest Community Safety Partnership, Kidderminster College and Worcester-based motov8.

Tim Mason, director of business, innovation and skills at Kidderminster College, said: “We’re delighted with the success of the new project in Kidderminster but it now means that we’ll have to launch an annual appeal for any unwanted motor vehicles - failed MoTs, old or relatively new, any front/rear or four wheel-drive, to help further its success.”

Anyone wishing to donate should contact Revd Mark Badger, on 01905 619068. Arrangements can be made to collect any vehicles which can help the project.
