CELEBRITY interior design gurus, Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan, worked their magic on a room at a Bewdley B&B which was in need of some “oomph”.

They brought their rollers and paint brushes to transform the guest lounge at Number Thirty, after owner, Jenny Paddock won P&G Professional’s celebrity front of house competition to have the £4,000 makeover.

She welcomed the duo into her home last Thursday and they had just one day to redesign the communal area into a contemporary oasis for her guests.

They decorated the room with cream wallpaper and “dramatic” grey and black-striped curtains and provided furniture, such as lampshades and a coffee table, while Mrs Paddock chose to keep her sofas.

“The look is classic with a modern contemporary feel,” said Mrs Paddock, who has been running the B&B for five years, “I’m very pleased with it .

“They were hampered by the lack of time so they weren’t quite able to finish all the painting that they needed to but I’m pleased with the design. I wouldn’t have had the confidence to put the curtains with the wallpaper.”

She added that she entered the contest as she had been thinking about decorating the room for a while.

“It needed updating,” she said, “It was just a bit boring. It needed oomph. I never expected to win the competition so it was a great shock when I got the phone call.”

Mrs Paddock was presented with the transformed room by Colin and Justin before they left at about 6.45pm, just like in the former BBC makeover show, Changing Rooms.

She added: “Colin and Justin were delightful. They were there all day. They were really friendly and were doing all sorts. They were very hands on. They were great fun and it was a really fun day.”

Nick Beresford, managing director of P&G Professional, said: “Jenny’s entry really stood out from the crowd, with tangible tips that hoteliers and B&B owners could easily build into their day-to-day schedules. We loved the attention to detail she provided in helping create a unique and memorable experience for her guests.”
