MORE than 170 people attended a special performance at Stourport canal basins.

Mikron Theatre Company’s Pedal Power told the tale of the National Clarion Cycling Club, the socialist movement sweeping the country which began in the 1890's, and the creation, and present day demise, of a local cycle shop.

Tom Elliott, director of Stourport Forward, said: "This was a most interesting and entertaining night.

“The highlight for me was the hilarious and brilliant ventriloquist sequence, with the human dummy, but there were also clever musical interludes between the varied sketches that told the story.

“We have already asked Mikron to come back and perform for us again next year.”

The creation of the events programme for the basins is part of a partnership project of Stourport Forward with Stourport Civic Society and British Waterways which was funded by regional development agency, Advantage West Midlands, and Stourport Civic Society.

The work of Stourport Forward has been funded by grants from Wyre Forest District Council and Worcestershire County Council, with support from British Waterways and Stourport Town Council, other partners and a team of volunteers.

Pedal Power is part of the annual programme of events. For more information visit stourporttown.co.uk or call 01299 822827.
