A LANDLADY was left to pick up the pieces after a car smashed into her Kidderminster pub.

A silver Vauxhall Vectra crashed through the hedge and fence outside the Cavalier, in Tennyson Way, at about 12.50am on Monday.

The car smashed through tables, before colliding with the pub building and crashing into fire exit steps and a door.

There were about six people in the pub, members of staff and their partners, who were having a drink as they cleaned up for the evening but no-one inside the building was injured.

Landlady, Norma Taylor, said: “We saw the lights coming and heard a big bang. We went outside and it was mayhem. It was a shock really. It wasn’t until I saw the damage the next morning that I thought ‘oh God, it’s a mess, we have got to clean it up’.

“It’s an inconvenience. It makes the pub look not very good. I wasn’t angry - it’s all the aftermath and cleaning up. We are going to get on with it.”

The pub remained open for business as staff tidied up. An insurance company will assess the damage.

A man in his 20s was arrested and bailed to return to Kidderminster Police Station on Tuesday, November 2, on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.

Police are appealing for witnesses to help with their inquiries. Anyone with any information should call Kidderminster Police Station on 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 12S270910.
